Shadowflame 20th Anniversary Edition
RED ANVIL Comics has announced plans for a 20th anniversary hardcover of its Shadowflame title that will feature a wraparound cover by comic book legend John Byrne, and is being crowd-funded through Kickstarter.
The Shadowflame 20th Anniversary Ultimate Hardcover is 172 pages in full colour with interior work by creator Joe Martino plus Chris Malgrain, Peter Palmiotti, Ian Sokoliwski, Dash Martin, Rick Buckler Jr, Naser Subashi, Johnny Lowe and Jeff Austin.
The book will also include pin-ups and chapter covers by artists Bob Layton, Mike Grell, Rudy Nebres, Andie Tong, Paul Ryan, Darren Taylor, Deon Nuckols, Steven Perkins, Anthony Castrillo, Rob X. Roman, Buzz, Rob Stull, Jon Malin, Tots Valeza, Grant Perkins, plus the aforementioned cover by John Byrne.
Shadowflame's story goes thus: “When Officer Tom Wyatt's wife, Janice, was murdered he attempted to end his own life. Instead he found himself transported to a ship orbiting the Earth. He could not kill himself for he was the last of a family line that possessed the perfect genetic Imprint to receive the gift of power. In a painful ceremony, he was endowed with powers that transformed him into a superman. This gave him not only great powers, but a reason to live.”
Alongside Shadowflame, Red Anvil Comics publishes Owlgirls, The Mighty Titan, War of the Independents and Cyberines. The current publishing house was formed in 2012 when New Jersey based creators Dave Ryan and Joe Martino merged their small press companies.
