Barracuda Book 3: Duel
Barracuda Book 3: Duel by Jean Dufaux & Jérémy, Cinebook
CAPTAIN FLYNN has died leaving all he possessed to his ward, Emilio, or rather Emilia as most of the those on Puerto Blanco believe, and as the character now prefers to be it appears. Meanwhile Maria and Raffy have become lovers, despite being forced into marriage with another. She like Emilio/Emilia survivors when The Barracuda, Raff’s father ship; raided their own vessel.
For the first section of the book they appear as three youths going through the motions of acting grown-up while dark plotting goes on around them on this pirate’s island. Out at sea Captain Blackdog is having nightmares about a gigantic sea-serpent, Leviatahan and during his waking hours fighting for his life against a witch he brought on board to help him find treasure. As the book heads towards its conclusion we have learnt the youths have indeed grown-up and learnt the callous ways of adults: Maria taunts her husband in public into buying her slaves and then wants to make them fight to the death, but he is crueler still and will exact his revenge. Likewise, a duel ensues where Emilia avenges Flynn’s murder.
The children that were have taken their place and now fit in perfectly with the vagabond and cut-throats of Puerto Blanco… One wonders if they will fight to help it survive as two Spanish galleons approach the island. Well, Book 4 will let us know.
