SPANISH CREATOR-DRIVEN publisher, Amigo Comics have been publishing a number of titles, making inroads internationally with fans in Japan and a growing number of US fans thanks to their English speaking comics.
Here’s the lowdown on a few…
Rogues
Rogues is a run sword & sorcery series that Amigo has published various series of and each can be read independently.
However you can also get trade paperbacks featuring complete stories of The Burning Heart and The Crypt of the Rotten Gods and more.
So if you’re into zombie-hammering-bimbos and more El Torres and artists Juan José Ryp, Diego Galindo and Ruiz Burgos can oblige with Rogues.
Ghost Wolf: Born in Snow and Blood There is a now full trade paperback of this mature themed book, with 116 page in full colour, written by El Torres with art by Ángel Hernández (Star Trek/Green Lantern), Luis Czerniaswski, Siku and Loren Lorente.
The story goes that when the clan of the Sons of Corr lost their courage, they were swept by the wild tribes but one man decided to fight and paid with his life, becoming the vessel for a long, forsaken spirit of vengeance; the Ghost Wolf. Alan Dracon Italian artist Stefano Martino has worked on English speaking comic series such as Doctor Who, Warlord of Mars, Catwoman and George R.R. Martin’s Doorways, and is renowned in European for graphic novel works Nosferatu and Oracle, and the sci-fi series Alan Dracon was one of his early creator-owned projects.
Dracon is just a bodyguard trying to make a living. Alas for him this involves having to deal with high-tech industrial moguls, genetically modified organisms, and seductive corporates...Most of whom want him dead! But are Yakuza assassins really going to stop him protecting exo-archaeologists intent on finding strange monoliths or ghosts being revived? You can find out for yourself in in the sci-fi action adventure.
Unleash
Unleash is a four issue mini-series written by screen writer Jennifer Van Gessel and El Torres, with artists Javier Fernandez (Nightwing) Gabriel Hernandez Walta ( Uncanny X-Men), Sergio Mora (Army of Darkness), Nacho Tenorio and Sergio Mora.
Already in development as a movie it tells the story of Emmie who, after having been assaulted, wants to change the world by becoming a superhero. Unfortunately her plans are limited, as being a hero takes more than a costume. A strange twist of fate lead her to for an agreement with the most unlikely crime-fighting partner you could imagine, but the opportunity to lay her own brand of justice down on sexual predators.
Amidst problems with her father, her relationship with and ex-gangster Keith and tensions with her masked companion The Machine the saga moves forward until by the final issue she’s close in on the person who previously attacked her only for a dark persona to takes over, and once her attacker’s identity is revealed she is faced with a dilemma that changes everything.
Sidney Hammer Vs The Wicker Wolf
Spanish writer/artist Massacre relates the tale of Sidney Hammer, a scantily-clad, sardonic, grind-house reporter. She may only have wanted a cold beer, but she found herself looking for a missing girl and being hunted by a big bad werewolf! And she’s not even sure if the tabloid she's working for will pay for the investigation of this spooky case.
So if you like that one Amigo have more Sidney Hammer tales for you.
Straitjacket Wagner is confined in an expensive asylum. She murdered her brother when she was a child, and has been jumping from one institution to another, thinking she’s protecting our world against monsters called The Feeders with the help of her deceased brother. Thomas Hayes is her psychiatrist, and he believes she’s totally mad. Apparently she is, but she’s also right!
