XIII Book 7: The Night of August Third
XIII Book 7: The Night of August Third, by Jean Van Hamme & William Vance, Cinebook
CONCLUDING THE story begun in The Jason Fly Case, the man known as XIII gets to the bottom of a murder mystery that took place in Green Falls many years ago – An event that you think would stay etched on the mind of someone who’d been a youth there, though whether our hero had been remains an enigma.
Amidst the tense dramas that plays out Van Hamme offers time for emotional conflicts, reappraisals and tears to be shed. This is aided and abetted by Vance being able to draw woman on a par with Enrique Romero for their poised sexual beauty, while his sense of detail towards both mechanics and the natural environment while quite possibly being photo-sourced can at times be breathtaking – the flashback scenes withdrawing from Petra’s exemplary colour palette to be reflected in black and white are – for once? - literal in their intent of defining what’s wrong and right morally.
A must read for XIII readers, fans of a good thriller, and those who admire excellently crafted art.
