XIII Book 3: All the Tears of Hell, by Jean Van Hamme & William Vance, Cinebook

CAPTURED AT the end of Book 2, the man bearing a tattooed XIII on his chest finds himself locked in a high security prison, convicted of murder: did he also kill the president? Is he really a man called Ross Tanner?

Does any of this really matter? For General Carrington who previously thought XIII was Steve Rowland it does. And more so for XII himself: he doesn’t want to be locked away and bides his time for when best he can try to escape.

The mysterious Mongoose puts in an early, brief and curious appearance, visiting the prison, but shedding no light on his motives, whereas Lt. Jones makes her own entrance behind the caged walls in her own unique manner.

When XIII does make his break for freedom another prisoner tags along, one who acts the innocent but sure as hell isn’t.

While the pieces still don’t fit, they continue to shuffle along nicely, as the creators step up another gear in this thriller.
