WANTED ON trumped-up murder charges, Largo Winch is hiding out in Canada and the Mounties don’t get their man this time round.

The events of Book 9’s The Price of Money left Winch very much a poor man in spirit, but this time round old friends return, and a former enemy too as the chess board is reset for a rematch and our hero takes on the various foes who plotted against him last time round.

There’s action for sure, but on isolated pages rather than gung-ho shootouts and car chases.

This time round it’s all about Van Hamme’s plotting as he moves his characters round, exposing us to their true nature in what turns out to be a classic whodunnit detective story. That this works is in no small way the result of Francq’s deft visual choreography across the comic book pages.
