Iznogoud Book 9: The Grand Vizier
Iznogoud Book 9: The Grand Vizier, by Rene Goscinny & Jean Tabary, Cinebook
AS WITH the previous collection of Iznogoud, the stories get better as you read through this book.
There’s the off-kilter story of the genie of the slipper, a cultural exchange trip with a neighbouring sultan not known for being of a docile nature, the hiring of some inept strong-arm men and Caliph lookalikes alike, plus the Mongol hordes at Baghdad’s doorsteps!
All these tales come with jokes wrung out in Goscinny’s familiar style and cartooned by Tabary. All decent stuff. But the best is left until the end as Iznogoud as part of his nefarious schemes to get rid of the caliph and replace him takes his master on a little fishing trip that ends up with them landing on a giant’s island –
Highly improbable scenarios, daft antics, and some corny jokes that will still make you smile!
