EPIC IS indeed the word; those straight fiction science fiction come fantasy aficionados who like their tales spread across a series of books with characters coming, going, then being replaced by their offspring should dip into Brazilian-born Leo’s star-stretching graphic novels, as published in the English by Cinebook.
The one continuing character throughout these books is Kim, a girl we’ve seen grown into a woman, one very special one, and with this book’s latter half she adds another role she must play. Other main characters surface, but are not part of the main focus in this volume.
Indeed, this is very much the prologue with three different scenarios being established, but each tying into the fact that the protagonists will end up heading towards Antares where three scientist-researchers-astronauts from Earth await, exploring the world in the hope that humanity can settle there, but finding far too many dangers along the way; a fact those on Earth who are funding the mission are made aware of but are failing to share this information with others lest their own fortunes, and faiths, fail.
As ever, the science remains largely sci-fi but the themes explored by Leo continue their mature socio-political contemplations on humanity as a species.
