Birmingham Cinematic Premiere for Future Shock! The Story of 2000AD...

The Birmingham Comics Festival in association with the MAC Birmingham has revealed that this year's events will conclude on Saturday 30th April with the Birmingham cinematic premiere of Future Shock! The Story of 2000AD - The much-lauded film documentary of the science-fiction anthology that would go on to have a global impact on the comics industry.

Three and a half decades ago the self-titled “Galaxy's greatest comic” came rolling off a printing press onto wagons, got stacked in newsagents and ended up in the hands of over a hundred thousand children… This in a time of recession, political unrest, uncertain future, and no internet; and in a challenge to survive it succeeded beyond all expectations, with 2000AD appearing weekly to this day, while films, games and a plethora of other merchandise reap the rewards of what Kevin Gosnell, Pat Mills, John Wagner and others put together all those years ago.

“Definitive”, “comprehensive”, “Illuminating”, “cutting edge”, “punk”, “infuriating”, “epic” and “some angry Scotsmen” have been all been quips made about this fascinating and revealing film that features exclusive interviews with some of the illustrious names who have been involved with the comic, plus those behind-the-scenes whose roles were just as integral to its success.

To signify the importance of this event The Birmingham Comics Festival has invited four guests with strong connections to not only 2000AD but the city of Birmingham itself to the premiere. Eisner Award nominated writer Ian Edginton and the incredible talents that are artists Jimmy Broxton, Ian Richardson and Phil Winslade will be present to discuss the merits of the comic and their own work within during a frank discussion hosted by Paul H Birch that will be followed by an informal signing session to conclude the evening and the festival itself.

The premiere of Future Shock! The Story of 2000AD at the MAC Birmingham will be a night to remember and a fitting closure to what looks to be a resounding success for this year’s Birmingham Comics Festival.
