Birmingham Comic Festival's Gala Convention!

Birmingham’s been putting on comic book conventions so long it almost feels like they date back to the stone-age! In fact it was only 1968, when history was made and the city hosted the first ever one in the UK. We’ve done them since, and tend to do them rather well.

Last year The Birmingham Comics Festival extended that rich history to put on a whole series of comics-related events, including a convention. That particular spectacular family-friendly event is back as part of the festival at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium this year on Saturday 23rd April, and from fans of The Beano to The Batman and all points in between there will be something for everyone.

Last year he was illustrating Avengers: Age of Ultron, this year he’s chiselling away at The Flintstones so the festival is delighted that Steve Pugh will once more be paying the convention a visit. While making their debut at the convention will be two totally diverse but equally brilliant talents, 2000AD artists D’Israeli and Mark Harrison, alongside Dr Who cover artist Simon Myers, plus you might spot a man who was there at that very first Birmingham comic convention, Whizzer & Chips and Buster cartoonist Mike Higgs.

They will be joining Dan Abnett (Guardians of The Galaxy), Jim Alexander (Birds of Prey), Asia Alfasi (Libyan Folk Tales), Roland Bird (Legion of Superheroes), Ryan Brown (2000AD), Mike Collins (Dr Who), Gary Crutchley (2000AD), Al Davison (The Dreaming), Ian Edginton (Steed & Mrs Peel), Hunt Emerson (Viz), John Erasmus (Harlan Coben’s The Five), Leigh Gallagher (Justice League), Graham Higgins (Discworld) David Hine (The X-Men), Laura Howell (The Regular Show), Staz Johnson (Wolverine), Ian Kennedy (Commando) Mark Laming (The Avengers) Yihan Li (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Jessica Martin (The It Girl), John McCrea (Deadpool), Luca Pizzari (The Black Knight), Ian Richardson (Halo), Rachel Smith (Doctor Who), Lew Stringer (The Beano), Ron Tiner (Hellblazer), Dave Windett (The Beano) and Phil Winslade (Harley Quinn) all at the convention, while other festival events will feature exclusive guests who will only be there.

Alongside these internationally renowned creators there will be cosplayers adorned in their finest regalia, a diverse range of publications rare and new on offer, movie memorabilia and exhibitions, both face painting and body painting taking place, plus props as seen in movies from Marvel, DC and Star Wars and a whole lot more besides!
