Drink & Draw at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery...
THERE ARE those who claim The Birmingham Comics Festival has some lofty ideas. And that’s perfectly true. Where the festival stands today is apparently far from the vision held for its future. Will it reach those goals? Who knows, but those involved believe it’s worth putting the effort in to try, and why it is in regular contact with a number of like minded parties about places of interest across the city that themselves want to become involved. This leads us to the glorious 19th century structure that the city proudly refers to as the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery…
The Birmingham Comics Festival has cordially invited people to the spacious surroundings of the museum’s Edwardian Tea Rooms on Friday 22nd April where they will be greeted by your hosts for the evening, Messrs Nigel Hopkins and Simon Myers, for a celebratory evening where you can Drink & Draw!
Drink & Draw is a themed evening where pens, pencils and paper are provided and you get the chance to doodle or create a masterpiece. Talent is not a necessity – and may metaphorically go right out the window should you drink a little too much – but your enthusiasm is imperative.
Hopkins and Myers (the cover artist for Titan’s Dr Who comics) offer the perfect environment to express yourself artistically among like minded souls, make new friends and put you in a mellow mood for the festival’s convention that follows the next day. Their theme for the evening of Friday 22nd April, “How did you get your super powers?” How serious or flippant you wish to interpret your visuals is all part of the fun… And The Birmingham Comics Festival does want you to have fun regardless of its own lofty ideals!
