MAC Birmingham’s Comics Course for Adults

THE MAC Birmingham’s popular Creating Comics course for those aged 18 and over is now enrolling new students for its next batch of tutorials that will begin as of Friday 15th April, and ties into this year's Birmingham Comics Festival.

The 13 week course started last year and proved a fun and beneficial way for aspiring writers and artists to learn those basic skills required to tell a story in a comic book format through the collaborative nature of the tutorials run by Chris Hamilton in the MAC’s dedicated media studio.

The course covers drawing in various art styles from vintage to contemporary, storyboarding, creating conceptual artwork, plus animation techniques, making an animation, creating soundtracks, and three dimensional modelling; all integral as the comics medium is no longer solely viewed in the printed form but via pixels online, by phone and through the use of interactive gaming.

Taking place from 7.30 – 9.30pm ever Friday evening and beginning on the 15th April that’s three week’s worth of tutorials during The Birmingham Comics Festival season; meaning those who feel they’re already achieving their goals might like to take along their samples and show them to some of the small press publishers attending the festival’s comic convention at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium on Saturday 23rd April. Who knows, in time it might even lead to a whole new group of professional comic book creators like Laura Howell (The Beano), Roland Bird (Legion of Superheroes) and Graham Higgins (2000AD) all featured on this page and who all live in the Midlands.
