Laydeez Do Comics… And The Birmingham Comics Festival!

GLASSES ARE planning to be raised at The Victoria Theatre Pub on Monday 4th April 2016 as Laydeez Do Comics celebrates its first anniversary as a regular comics forum in Birmingham, and begins its celebrations as part of this year’s Birmingham Comics Festival.

Hosted by Charlotte Bailey, April’s Laydeez Do Comics evening will feature three guest speakers, alongside promoting Hometown – a new anthology comic being produced by the Birmingham branch - that will be about the city and those who reside within it - and is due to be released in time for the festival’s convention later in the month on the 23rd April.

Launched in the USA back in 2009, Laydeez Do Comics has since grown to have a worldwide presence with meetings that include creators, academics, publishers and fans alike. The Birmingham branch being a platform where emerging artists may present their work alongside more established practitioners, in an inspiring and friendly atmosphere, and is far from being female exclusive.

Laydeez Do Comics recently moved venue to The Victoria Theatre Pub. Dating back to the late 19th century, it has been voted one of the Top Ten Gastro Pubs in the UK; offers handpicked wines, cask ales and cocktails and is even rumoured to have its very own ghost!

Guest speakers on Monday 4th April will be Dr Who and Independence Day comics cover artist Verity Glass, Coventry-based cartoonist and illustrator Caroline Parker, and journeyman writer/editor Paul H Birch wherein the ladies will no doubt discuss their careers and the creative process, whereas Mr Birch is most likely to discuss his favourite subject, women... The ladies can only hope that it also somehow involves comics!
