Graphic Novel Review... Lucky Luke Meets Phil Wire
Lucky Luke Book 40: Phil Wire, by Morris, Cinebook
THERE'S NO competition to the watered-down whisky sold in The Ace of Spades Saloon out in Bottleneck Gulch and that’s the way that the mean-spirited scoundrel that is O’Sullivan likes it.
Then along comes O’Hara who sets up shop right next door and starts to sway the patrons away into his own Ace of Hearts gin joint.
The competition soon runs fierce.
O’Sullivan’s answer is to contact Phil Wire by letter, otherwise known as The Spider, a notorious gunman for hire. Only, no one knows what he looks like and when Lucky Luke turns up producing that letter everyone presume he’s Wire and the tables get turned on O’Sullivan’s plans.
That is until the spindly figure that is indeed Wire the Spider turns up with his six guns. Tables are turned, several times, as the story plays out amusingly without losing any steam.
In fact there’s room for a back-up strip in the album whereby Lucky Luke plays the role of narrator in a fun gag story titled The Pill about a useless sheriff who succeeds against all odds and would make an excellent short animated cartoon.
